Hi, I’m Eva — I’m so grateful you’re here.
My story began many years ago as a little girl growing up in Toronto. I was the girl who always had a smile on my face, who was there to listen with an empathetic ear, and who spent so much worrying about everyone else.
Through life’s inevitable challenges, I struggled, but people always told me that I was the strongest person they knew. Funny, because they didn’t see me curled up in the fetal position on my bathroom floor. That’s because I mostly hid that side of me to protect how others felt.
I allowed myself to be mistreated. I made other's emotions my problem. I trampled my own boundaries to keep the peace. I was abused --- physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I became someone I didn't know. I spent a lot of time pushing things down, numbing, avoiding, deflecting.
That was until the consequences of doing that were just too great.
As a widowed, solo mom to three incredible young men, I knew I had to make changes.
My growth journey started with years of therapy to gain connection and unconditional acceptance of myself. It continued with my own self reflection of my patterns. Through professional development and skill building, I continue to grow and learn. Life will always have its challenges, but each day brings love, wonder, and beauty.
And I am here for it.

My Vision
My vision for Given to Fly was to offer a space grounded in trust, where people can show up authentically and have the human experience they may never have felt safe enough to have before. I combine cognitive-based therapies with embodied practices to help the mind and body connect and heal. I take a relational, attachment-based approach, knowing that our connection with others has shaped much of how we have grown. I know that connection matters, how your body feels matters, and what happened to you really matters. You just show up as you are and I meet you there.

My Values And Beliefs

Authenticity
I believe in being my truest self as a human being and as a therapist. I have strengths and I have flaws and I don't believe either takes away from my ability to connect with, support, and care for others. They simply make me human.

Unconditional Acceptance
We have all made mistakes, but that is part of the human experience. No matter what has happened in your past and present, I am here for you and I believe in your ability for growth. We all do the best we can with what we have and what we know.

Connection
I believe that connection equals safety in our world. I am incredibly grateful for the connections I have made with my friends, my family, and my clients.

Curiosity
I believe healing begins with understanding. I don’t make assumptions— I want to learn and get to know the person in front of me—their story, their experiences, their values, and the unique path that has brought them to me.

Presence
I believe one of the greatest gifts we can offer ourselves and others is our full presence. As Ram Dass says, be here now.

The power of nature
Whether that is stopping to smell a flower, admire a hummingbird at my feeder, or appreciate the quiet on a walk through the woods, I believe nature can be transformative to our mind, body, and our soul.

With all of life’s stressors and challenges, self care is so important for all of us. I always make time and space for what matters to me, which could be a relaxing day at the spa, hiking on new trails, seeing live music, a new tattoo, or just relaxing in my garden with a book. I start each day with gratitude for every blessing that has come my way (even if I didn’t know it was a blessing at the time).
Writing and photography are passions of mine and one day I hope to live by the ocean and create stories. My family and loved ones are #1 in my life and we love to travel together and find adventure in new places.

What Given to Fly Means
.png)
Pearl Jam has been the soundtrack to my life. Given to Fly is a song by Pearl Jam. It is a metaphorical story about transformation, freedom, and rising above hardship. I believe we are all given to fly and I can help you spread your wings. The dragonfly on my logo is often representative of hope in grief.

My Background and Training
Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years helping individuals and businesses bring their ideas to life through thoughtful, creative content. I mentored writers and editors, supporting them as they developed their skills and worked toward their goals. Throughout my career, helping people has always been at the heart of what I do, which is why I also volunteered in the criminal justice system for many years and I now volunteer with bereaved adults and children.
As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the CRPO, I hold my Masters degree in Counselling Psychology with honours. I believe learning never stops. I'm committed to ongoing professional development so I can continue to grow, stay informed, and provide the best possible care for my clients.
