Couples Therapy
At Given to Fly, we offer a supportive and non-judgmental space where couples can slow down, reconnect, and better understand one another. Whether you are feeling distant, stuck in recurring conflicts, navigating a betrayal, or simply wanting to strengthen your relationship, couples therapy can help you create a more secure, connected, and fulfilling partnership.

Couples Counselling

“We keep having the same argument.”
Many couples find themselves caught in repetitive cycles of conflict that leave both partners feeling unheard, misunderstood, or disconnected. Often, the problem isn't the issue itself—it's the pattern that develops around it. Together, we identify these patterns and work toward healthier ways of communicating and connecting.
“We love each other, but we don't feel close anymore.”
Over time, life's demands, stressors, and responsibilities can gradually create emotional distance. You may feel more like roommates than partners, struggling to find the closeness, affection, and connection you once shared. Therapy can help rebuild emotional intimacy and strengthen your bond.

“If this happens again, I’m leaving!”
This statement often comes from a place of overwhelm, hurt, and a desire to protect yourself when a boundary has been crossed repeatedly. It can reflect a moment of clarity where you recognize that something is not working for you anymore. At the same time, strong emotional declarations can sometimes arise in the heat of conflict, when feelings are heightened and the nervous system is activated.
“Love is a continual process of tuning in, connecting, missing, and misreading cues, disconnecting, repairing, and finding deeper connection.” — Sue Johnson
Common Reasons Couples Seek Therapy
Communication Difficulties
Misunderstandings, defensiveness, criticism, and feeling unheard can create distance between partners. Therapy helps couples develop healthier communication patterns and improve emotional understanding.

Frequent Conflict
Recurring arguments can leave both partners feeling frustrated, exhausted, and disconnected. Together, we identify underlying needs and emotions that may be fueling conflict.
Emotional Disconnection
You may care deeply for one another but feel emotionally distant. Therapy can help restore intimacy, vulnerability, and emotional safety within the relationship.

Trust and Betrayal
Experiences such as infidelity, secrecy, broken promises, or emotional betrayals can deeply impact a relationship. Healing requires understanding, accountability, and rebuilding trust over time.
Life Transitions
Major life changes—including becoming parents, retirement, career shifts, relocation, illness, or loss—can place strain on relationships and challenge established roles and routines.

Parenting Challenges
Differences in parenting styles, family responsibilities, and stress can create tension between partners. Therapy can help couples strengthen their partnership while navigating the demands of family life.
Intimacy and Sexual Concerns
Physical and emotional intimacy often change throughout the course of a relationship. Couples therapy provides a safe space to discuss these concerns openly and respectfully.

Premarital Counselling
Couples do not need to be struggling to benefit from therapy. Premarital counselling can help strengthen communication, clarify expectations, and build a solid foundation for the future.

Therapy for Couples Approach
Every relationship is unique, which means couples therapy is tailored to your specific concerns, strengths, and goals. Using a culturally curious, attachment-informed, and relational lens, we work together to understand the patterns that keep you feeling disconnected, misunderstood, or stuck in recurring cycles of conflict. My primary approaches to couples therapy include Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Depending on your needs, therapy may also incorporate communication and conflict resolution strategies, mindfulness practices, and interventions designed to strengthen emotional awareness, relational resilience, and mutual understanding.
